Of Spring and New Beginnings

I love the morning after a spring rainstorm. Early morning, before the neighborhood wakes and everyone emerges from their safe, dry homes to start their day. Before the traffic on the street drowns out the twitter of the birds playing in the trees. I stand at my back door and see my wet yard and the woods beyond. I close my eyes and listen. The birds are enjoying the morning like always, chirping and calling each other from the branches. I can hear raindrops falling gently  from the leaves in the trees. It’s like the woods gets its own private little rain shower. I open my eyes and I can see squirrels jumping from tree to tree, causing them to sway a bit. The air is fresh and cool, and there is no breeze. It seems as if the world - at least my world - is starting over. Overnight, it’s been washed of all the mistakes, bad choices, and ill feelings of the day before. I’m ready to start again. To take on the day like I’ve started fresh, and try not to make the same mistakes or bad ch
